Orthodontic treatments are referred to the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of problems with the alignment of teeth and jaws. The procedure involves the use of corrective appliances to give a straight and healthy smile.
Looking for the right orthodontic treatment can be overwhelming. There is a lot on the market, including metal braces (also known as stainless steel braces), clear brackets, and clear aligners. Rest assured, at MC Dental, you will be looked after by an experienced, yet affordable, dentist.
Our patients often ask us what clear aligners are and if they work.
The simple answer is clear aligners (dental aligners) are a solution for correcting mild to moderately crowded or incorrectly spaced teeth. Clear aligners, also known as invisible aligners, are most effective when your back teeth are already-fit together in decent shape. It is safe to say clear aligners work in correcting simpler or tipping movements of teeth in two dimensions. You can use them throughout the day or at night.
Invisible aligners or clear aligners have become popular among teens and adults. This is mainly due to the trays being almost invisible and low maintenance. Additionally, clear aligners can easily be removed so you can comfortably eat on the go, brush, and floss your teeth. Also, clear aligners can be rinsed and cleaned with a toothbrush.
Several brands on the market treat many teeth straightening issues. Treatment includes correcting:
- Gap teeth
- Crowded teeth
- Spacing/ diastema
- Open bite
- Dental midlines
- Buccal corridors
- A gummy smile
At MC Dental, we have partnered with Invisalign and Melbourne based company SmileStyler who are leading brands in making clear aligners. We are using multiple clear trays techniques to align the teeth, like a clear and thin mouthguard.
SmileStyler (founded 2015) is an Australian manufactured clear aligner. SmileStyer is based in Port Melbourne, and won The Australian Dental Industry 2020 award for innovation.

Metal braces and Clear braces
Braces come in a range of styles and profiles. Each patient will require different bracket setups so MC Dental will find a system best suited to the patient’s budget and oral health.
Stainless steel brackets
Stainless steel brackets, also known as metal braces, are an iconic part of what braces look like, they are a time-tested part of major and minor orthodontic treatments.
Stainless brackets are fabricated from durable stainless steel. These brackets are placed on the patient’s teeth with an adhesive to provide the strength needed to move teeth and then connected via wires and bands to give the precise teeth movements the patients require. While not as aesthetic as some bracket options, stainless steel brackets are highly effective and an excellent choice for many patients.
Clear Brackets/ Ceramic Braces
Ceramic braces are like metal brackets but consist of tooth-coloured brackets and rubber bands. The clear brackets are designed to blend in with your teeth. Bands can be white, clear, or coloured if you want to make a statement or have a bit of fun.
The results from braces (dental braces) are generally faster than clear aligners. Clear braces are an excellent option for patients that are on a smaller budget.
