Is Invisalign Safe? Things You Need To Know
When you’re considering Invisalign to enhance your smile, it’s natural to have questions about safety. As a trusted Invisalign Provider, we’re committed to offering clear, honest information to help you feel confident in your treatment

Is Invisalign Safe?
Invisalign has revolutionised orthodontic treatment, with over 12 million smiles transformed worldwide. The treatment’s excellent safety record stems from several key factors:
Medical-Grade Materials
Invisalign aligners are crafted from SmartTrack®, a proprietary thermoplastic material specifically developed for orthodontic treatment. This material is:
- BPA-free and phthalate-free
- TGA-approved for long-term dental applications
- Biocompatible with oral tissues
- Designed for gentle, precise tooth movement
Unlike traditional metal braces, Invisalign aligners contain no metals that might trigger allergic reactions, making them suitable for patients with metal sensitivities.
The Comfort Advantage
Beyond safety, Invisalign offers significant comfort benefits:
- Smooth edges designed to prevent irritation to cheeks and gums
- Removable aligners for easy cleaning and maintenance
- No emergency visits for broken wires or brackets
- Gradual, controlled tooth movement minimising discomfort

Invisalign During Pregnancy
Many expectant mothers wonder about the safety of continuing or starting Invisalign treatment during pregnancy. Here’s what you should know:
- The materials are safe: Invisalign’s medical-grade plastic doesn’t release harmful chemicals that could affect pregnancy.
- Treatment flexibility: The removable nature of aligners allows for comfortable wear during pregnancy.
- Hormonal considerations: Pregnancy hormones can sometimes affect gum health and tooth movement, which our dentists will monitor carefully.
- Timing options: Some patients prefer to begin treatment before pregnancy or after delivery, but continuing throughout pregnancy is generally considered safe.
We recommend consulting with both your obstetrician and our dental team to make an informed decision based on your individual circumstances.

Maintaining Safety Throughout Treatment
For the safest and most effective Invisalign experience:
- Keep up with regular check-ups at our clinic
- Practice excellent oral hygiene while wearing aligners
- Follow wear instructions (20-22 hours daily)
- Report any concerns promptly to our dental team
Safety in Practice: Maintaining Your Aligners
For the safest and most effective Invisalign experience, proper aligner care is essential:
- Clean aligners properly using the Invisalign Cleaning System or by gently brushing with a soft toothbrush and water
- Avoid hot water when cleaning, as it can warp the plastic
- Remove aligners when eating or drinking anything other than plain water to prevent staining and reduce exposure to sugars and acids
- Store aligners in their case when not in use to prevent loss or damage

T&Cs: The patient must undergo a consultation with a dentist to determine suitability for Invisalign treatment. Invisalign is not suitable for all patients. Treatment results and duration vary depending on individual circumstances and compliance with wearing aligners 20-22 hours daily. Patients may require additional dental work (at extra cost) before commencing Invisalign treatment. The Invisalign Day promotional price cannot be used in conjunction with any other offer. No further discount applies. Components of the package are not transferable or redeemable for cash. Regular follow-up appointments must be attended as scheduled. Replacement aligners due to loss or damage will incur additional fees. Invisalign treatment is available with participating dentists only.
FAQ -Invisalign Safety
Both treatments are considered safe, but Invisalign offers certain advantages: no risk of injuries from wires or brackets, reduced likelihood of enamel demineralization (white spots), and removability for thorough cleaning of teeth.
Allergic reactions to Invisalign aligners are extremely rare. The SmartTrack® material is hypoallergenic and designed for biocompatibility. If you have known allergies to plastics, please discuss this with our dental team during your consultation.
Drinking plain water while wearing your aligners is perfectly safe. However, remove aligners for all other beverages to help prevent staining and reduce exposure to sugars and acids that can become trapped between the aligner and your teeth.
