Kids Dental Packages

Kids’ mouths change fast. New teeth come through, baby teeth fall out, and problems can develop quickly without you noticing. Regular visits (every 6 months recommended) let us catch small issues before they become big, painful, expensive ones. Plus, kids who grow up comfortable at the dentist tend to look after their teeth better when they become adults.

Plan for around 30-45 minutes. We don’t rush – there’s time for your child to settle in, ask questions, and for us to do a thorough job. If it’s their first visit or they’re a bit nervous, we may take things slower. It’s definitely better to build confidence than watch the clock.

First, our dentist will have a good look around their mouth – checking teeth, gums, and making sure everything’s developing nicely. Then comes the fun part: a gentle clean to remove any plaque buildup and polish those teeth. We finish with an optional fluoride treatment to strengthen the enamel. The whole visit is relaxed and our dentist will chat with your child throughout so they know exactly what’s happening.

For sure. We go at their pace – if they need to sit in your lap, that’s fine. If they want to hold the mirror and see what we’re doing, even better. Our team is good at spotting anxiety and we have loads of “tricks” to help kids feel safe. Most of our dentists speak multiple languages too, which can help kids feel more comfortable. We’ve had plenty of children arrive worried and leave asking when they can come back. 🙂

The package covers the check up and clean, but X-rays aren’t included – we’ll only suggest them if clinically necessary and you will be quoted separately. Same with fillings or other treatment. If we spot something that needs attention, we’ll talk you through it, explain the options, and there’s never pressure to do it all on the spot. You can think about it and book a separate appointment.

This package is specifically for families without private health cover – it’s our way of making quality dental care accessible. If you do have insurance, you’re better off claiming through that for a standard check-up & clean. Just book a regular appointment instead and bring your card – we can claim on the spot at most of our clinics.

If your child is aged 0-17 and you receive Family Tax Benefit A, Parenting Payment, or certain other government payments, they likely qualify for the Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS). That’s up to $1,132 over two consecutive calendar years for basic dental services. We can bulk bill Medicare directly for covered services, which means no out-of-pocket costs for things like check-ups, cleans, fillings, and X-rays (up to the benefit cap). Just bring your Medicare card and we’ll sort out the claim.

Fluoride is a natural mineral that makes tooth enamel stronger and more resistant to decay. It’s in most drinking water and many toothpaste. The fluoride treatment in this package is a concentrated form painted on after cleaning – think of it as extra armor for teeth. It’s particularly helpful for kids because their enamel is still maturing. It’s optional in the package, but we recommend it for most children.

Fissure sealants are thin protective coatings we paint into the grooves of back teeth – the most common spots for decay in kids. They’re like a raincoat for teeth: they don’t stop everything, but they make a big difference. We often recommend them for permanent molars as they come through (around age 6 and 12). They’re quick to apply, completely painless, and can last for years. If we think your child would benefit, we can discuss it during the check-up.

That’s something we assess at every check up appointment. Crowding, overbites, crossbites, gaps – we’re watching how things develop. Sometimes early intervention helps, sometimes it’s best to wait. If we spot something concerning, we’ll let you know. Most kids don’t need braces, but for those who do, timing matters. We’ll keep you informed as those adult teeth arrive.

If your child plays contact sports like footy, netball, basketball, or hockey, we strongly recommend they wear a custom-fitted mouthguard.

Dental injuries are one of the most common sports injuries in children, and they are highly preventable. A proper mouthguard made by the dentist fits better and offers superior protection compared to over-the-counter options. They are worth every cent compared to the high cost of fixing a knocked-out tooth. We can make custom guards here, and offer a 15% discount if you decide to have it done during your check-up appointment.
